Groundwater rises
Water pressure builds up beneath the sealed basin. Without relief, this pressure can lift the geomembrane.

ENIG in-house development
An automatically operating solution that protects membrane-lined basins from damage caused by rising groundwater.
The Problem
If the groundwater rises beneath an empty or only partially filled retention basin, it pushes against the geomembrane from below. The membrane can bulge, shift, or be damaged at connection points.
The groundwater pressure relief valve developed by ENIG solves this problem directly at the sealing layer. It reacts automatically to the pressure difference and relieves the structure only when necessary.
Step by step
Water pressure builds up beneath the sealed basin. Without relief, this pressure can lift the geomembrane.
As soon as the pressure reaches the specified opening value, the valve body lifts automatically—entirely without power or control systems.
Water can enter the basin in a controlled manner. This equalizes the pressure conditions, and the sealing system remains protected.
When the external pressure drops, the valve closes under its own weight. Basin water cannot flow back into the subsoil in an uncontrolled manner.
