Sealing stormwater retention basins permanently and safely.
Stormwater retention basins must reliably contain large volumes of water. We install the basin sealing with geomembranes – including slopes, connections, and documented quality assurance.
Structure of the Basin Sealing
Sealing a stormwater retention basin requires a coordinated system. Typical components include geomembranes – for instance, HDPE geomembranes as one possible material option –, protective geotextiles and other geotextiles. Smooth geomembranes are often used on the basin floor, while textured geomembranes are frequently used on slope areas.
The specific design is always planned on a project-specific basis: Geometry, subgrade, load, and design specifications determine the materials and the structure.
Slopes, Anchorage, and Connections
On slope areas, the geomembranes are secured in anchor trenches. At inlets and outlets, concrete structures, and pipe penetrations, we create the connections using clamping profiles and appropriate detailing.
Welding, Seam Testing, and Documentation
All seams are professionally welded and tested. We document the results to provide the client and designer with a traceable basis for the acceptance procedure.

In geomembrane-lined basins, external groundwater can put a load on the sealing system – especially when the basin is empty or only partially filled. For this scenario, ENIG has developed its own solution for groundwater pressure relief.
